We all keep grudging about the overall unclean and unhealthy situation in Pune and region around. Its’ really high time we all should think about the cleanliness issue and take concrete steps to eradicate the problem.

We all keep busy in our routine life – tied up with household, family and work affairs. We can hardly spare time to think of being a part of any social cause. Cleanliness is something we all want to have – we spend hours in cleaning our house, we spend money to decorate it further making it a clean and beautiful dwelling place.

But little we think of the space that begins as we step out of our house. It’s then public – not my area – not my responsibility – but in fact the area around our house and all such areas that make up the city have to be the responsibility of all of us. We all keep moving in and around the city every day, unaware of how we behave and contribute in making it an unclean an unpleasant place.

We all need, and think we deserve, a clean and healthy habitat; but the truth is that we all need to introspect – do we really deserve it? Do we share the responsibility of maintaining the cleanliness in day-today life? We all need to inculcate the cleanliness habits in ourselves, our family members, neighbors and friends. We need to promote and propagate these habits and make it a way of life that will in turn give us a clean city, and healthy surrounding for sure.

What do I do for an increased cleanliness in and around my city?

1. Identify what’s wrong and change it: The garbage in the house needs to be disposed off every day. Segregating the Wet and Dry Garbage is very important.

2. It’s just a matter of deciding: Every good habit needs a little pain to be taken to reap the benefits out of it.

3. Commitment towards the decision: It’s crucial to stick to the decision that is taken and follow it dedicatedly.

4. Habits matter: Be consistent to your good habits and refrain yourself from the short cuts that might attract you otherwise.

5. Better substitute for the old habit: Find your own ways of keeping your surrounding clean. Find feasible substitutes and simplified ways to implement the decided thing.

6. Don't give up: Remember that consistency is critical. Taking an occasional action will not work.

Believe in what you do if it’s good, visualize the expected change, support the likeminded people and take pride in the fact that you are the constituent of a social factor responsible to bring about the desired change.

Janwani promotes advocates and supports such activities and habits making the city a clean and healthy destination. Bringing about a change is a process that demands time and patience; but let’s all make it possible.

Together we can make a change for sure…
